improve ourselves

Developing yourself is not easy. It takes hard work, dedication and discipline to become the best that you can be. Developing yourself should be a continuous process that never stops developing. There are no shortcuts or quick fixes, but if you’re willing to invest in your future then it will pay off in spades. The first step is developing yourself mentally which includes developing your intellect and developing your creativity so read on for 6 tips on how to do just that!

Tip 1: Read Books

It is important to read books so that you can develop yourself.

A lot of people have the opinion that developing oneself means developing one’s skills, knowledge and abilities. A person may also think developing oneself means developing one’s personality traits or character traits. However, they are not the same thing because developing one’s personality traits or character traits does not necessarily mean developing oneself in a way that will help them succeed in life.

Reading books helps improve your vocabulary which is an important skill for success in life since it improves your speech and writing skills as well as making you better at solving problems with logic and reasoning. It also helps with personal development by improving your creativity, empathy, wisdom, patience and courage among many other qualities needed to be successful in life.

I think developing yourself means developing your character traits or personality traits.

Tip 2: Keep an Idea Notebook or Journal

It is important to have a place where you can record your thoughts and ideas. What is the point of developing yourself if you don’t have a place to store or organize what you learn? Keep a notebook or journal with you at all times so that if an idea comes to mind, whether it be during a meeting at work, in the car on the way home from work or even in bed before you go to sleep, then you can write it down. Your idea journal or notebook should be split into 2 sections; one for your business ideas and the other for personal development ideas.

Tip 3: Learn something new every day

When developing yourself you need to do more than read books. You also need to learn about the world and how it works. Learn about people, places and events that interest you. Learning about new things can help stimulate your mind and expand your knowledge on particular subjects which is crucial to developing your intellect.

Tip 4: Listen to Podcasts or Audiobooks

If reading isn’t for you then I recommend listening to podcasts or audiobooks while you commute to and from work or while exercising. You can subscribe to my podcasts on iTunes .

Tip 5: Send Emails to Yourself

This may seem like a strange tip, but developing yourself is all about developing your future which often means learning lessons from your past. By sending emails to yourself 1 year in the future and then again 2 years in the future, you can review how far you have come and also what lessons you have learnt along the way. I recommend using a service such as FutureMe .

Tip 6: Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

Comparing yourself to others is often fruitless since everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Comparing yourself to others also means that you are not developing yourself which means that you are not developing your future. Instead of comparing yourself to others, seek out the people, books, podcasts and audios that can help you improve in areas where you want to develop.
