Motivation is not just a word that means to empower and encourage someone to achieve their goals. Experts even made the theories of motivation to explain things further. The doctrines of motivation speak about human behavior and human needs and want. Therefore the scholars for making human behavior easy to understand they formed four theories of motivation. The doctrines of motivation talks of success and failure. It also briefs us on the path to success and failures. Some people want power. Therefore, they are ready to do anything. The hunger of power motivates them. So to get the ability, they do all kinds of things. So let us see what the different theories of motivation and what they mean are.
Theories Of Motivation
Maslow’s Need Hierarchy Theory
Maslow, in his approach, talks about the need for human. He gives his approach a form of hierarchy. In his need theory, the human wants and needs are assigned to levels and ranks, which means regime. The first level is Physiological Needs. In this level, he tells about the basic things that human beings need in their life for sustenance. Hence these needs include food, shelter, water, clothing, and money. These are needs for survival and maintenance.
Then he talks about the safety needs of human beings. Human beings need protection and security. They need protection from physical danger and safe from economic threat.
After satisfying safety and physiological need, he also has social needs. Human beings cannot stay alone; therefore, they make a family. They keep relations in society and satisfy social needs.
Humans are hungry with respect, so esteem need is even a part of this theory. They want self-respect and self-esteem. Therefore they do things that will get them self respect. And finally, there is a need for self-fulfillment.
Herzberg’s Motivation Hygiene Theory
In Herzberg’s theory, the central importance is about office space. Therefore they talk about hygiene in the office, the working conditions, interpersonal relationships, security, supervision, salary, and the company’s policies and administration. For Herzberg there two factors in a job that is a satisfying job and dissatisfying job, which makes the most motivating and demotivating. Some elements of job satisfaction, according to him, is responsibility, growth, advancement, achievements, and recognition. Humans need appreciation for motivation.
McClelland’s Need Theory
Mcclelland theory talks about three significant parts of the motivation of human needs. That is the need for power, need for achievement, and need for affiliation. The need for control makes human beings crazy, which can be easily seen in politicians. They go to extend to be in power. Growth in business and growth is vital. There is a need for achievement in human beings. Performances keep them driving and motivating
McGregor’s Participation Theory
Mcgregor theory talks on assumptions of positives and negatives in the office environments. He makes a chart and a list of all the positives and negatives. Then he relates how it will affect the motivation or whether it will be demotivating for the employees.
